Honest question, how many of you have heard of the program Homes for Heroes? I am pretty sure most of you reading this post have never heard of it. As a former military spouse, licensed nurse, active realtor, and wife to a law enforcement officer, I can tell you I had never heard of the program until recently. Although the program has been around since 2002, it is just starting to gain traction across the country. I am super excited to be a part of the program and I cannot wait to explain how it can save you thousands on your next real estate transaction. So now that you have at least know the name of the program, let’s dive in and explain it further.

History of the Program:

In 2002, Homes for Heroes, Inc. was established in Minneapolis, MN by current CEO Ruth Johnson and family members. They obtained the trademarks and served the first heroes. In 2009, Homes for Heroes hired its first employees and with over 100 affiliate real estate partners, launching the program nationally. Homes for Heroes, Inc. also created and established the Homes for Heroes Foundation nonprofit 501(c)(3) to further assist heroes in need. Celebrating the company’s 20th Anniversary and the amazing milestones achieved in the last year, including 50,000 heroes served, and $1 million awarded in hero grants to heroes in need. In 2022, after 20 years, the company reached $100 million given back to heroes as Hero Rewards savings!

Who Qualifies as a Hero in the Program?

Okay, I know what you are thinking, I am not in the military nor am I in law enforcement, so I don’t qualify for this program. But you are wrong. Qualifying heroes include, but are not limited to current and former firefighters, paramedics, EMTs, law enforcement and all other first responders. All ranks of active military, reserves and veterans of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. All nurses, doctors and other healthcare professionals. Also, Pre-K, elementary, secondary and post-secondary educators, teachers, professors and education administrative staff. As you can see, this program covers many of you reading this post. I underlined the most important part, the program covers many more professionals than listed on the website.

This is a great program that covers numerous professions and as you will learn in a moment, will save you thousands. Even if you do not work in one of the professions listed above, please do not stop reading. You may have a family member or friend who will benefit from this program and all that it has to offer.

What is Homes for Heroes and How can it Help Me?

Okay, the moment you have all been waiting for. Homes for Heroes partners mainly with real estate agents and mortgage specialists around the country. So when someone like you works with one of their specialists to purchase or sell a home, you can save 0.7% of the home purchase price, or $700 on every $100,000 of the purchase price. After closing on a house, Homes for Heroes will send you a check for the amount you saved. In addition, if you work with one of their mortgage, title and inspection specialists, you can save an average of $500 on lender fees, $150 on title service, and $50 on a home inspection. The average Hero Rewards savings received by a hero after closing on a house is $3,000!

I know you are saying there has to be a catch correct? There is no way I am getting a check for $3,000 for purchasing my next home. But let me reassure you, There is no red tape, no hidden fees,  no catch, and no max on the amount you can save. All you have to do is work with a real estate agent who is affiliated with the program to save thousands.

More importantly, Homes for Heroes pays it forward by assisting those in need, and when you collaborate with the organization, you also contribute to supporting deserving individuals. The Homes for Heroes Foundation, a nonprofit private charitable organization, grants funds to local nonprofit charities that support heroes in need—whether it’s related to housing or emergency financial assistance. When heroes buy or sell a home through Homes for Heroes, Inc., they’re directly contributing to fellow heroes in need, as a portion of Homes for Heroes, Inc.’s earnings goes toward the foundation.
